Safeguarding and child protection

A clear route for raising child-safety concerns, safe collection, staff conduct and confidential response.

About this demonstration policy

Lagoon Heights Academy is a fictional demonstration school. This policy illustrates a complete school process as at 8 October 2026; it is not an approved policy of an operating school or a claim of legal certification. The sample email, telephone and address are not monitored services. Do not submit real children’s information, send money or rely on this demo for urgent help. A live school must approve its own details and procedures before using this copy.

Every child’s welfare comes first

This sample policy applies to adults, pupils, visitors, transport providers and activities arranged by the school. Bullying, humiliation, discriminatory abuse, sexual exploitation, neglect and physical violence are not accepted. Children should be able to speak to a trusted adult without retaliation. In an operating school the head appoints a trained safeguarding lead and a deputy, publishes their real contact routes and maintains a local referral and emergency plan.

Raise a concern safely

Tell a trusted member of school staff or ask the office for the safeguarding lead. Explain what you saw or heard, who may be at risk, when it happened and whether immediate protection is needed. A child can ask for a conversation and does not need to complete a form or supply proof before being listened to. A concern about the head or lead should go to an independent proprietor/governance contact. Alleged abuse is not handled merely as an ordinary service complaint. The sample contacts on this demo cannot respond to an incident.

  • If someone is in immediate danger, seek appropriate local emergency or child-protection assistance now; do not wait for a portal message or email acknowledgement.
  • Listen calmly, take the concern seriously and explain that it may need to be shared with people responsible for keeping the child safe.
  • Do not promise absolute secrecy, confront a suspected perpetrator, conduct your own investigation or ask the child to repeat a detailed account to several people.
  • Preserve relevant messages or documents privately; do not circulate a child’s name, image or allegation on social media.

How staff respond

The receiving adult records the factual concern and the child’s words, informs the safeguarding lead promptly and considers immediate protection. The lead assesses referral to appropriate local professionals or authorities, records reasons and maintains a confidential action plan. Parents are involved when that is safe and appropriate; informing an adult suspected of causing harm can create additional risk. The school follows up protection arrangements and checks that the child can continue learning safely. Access to an incident record is limited and does not depend on ordinary academic portal permission.

Staff conduct and positive behaviour

Adults use respectful, age-appropriate communication and safe professional boundaries. Staff recruitment and provider checks, supervision, visitor identification and training are required parts of the live school’s arrangements. Personal contact with pupils, unsupervised activities, gifts or photography must follow authorised procedures. Discipline should help a child understand and repair harm; violence, degrading punishment and public shaming are prohibited by this sample policy. Online harassment is treated seriously whether it begins inside or outside the school.

Collection, transport and residential safety

The school records who may collect a child and checks changes through a verified adult, not just a forwarded message. Staff check identity and current authority, record an early departure and act on court restrictions. A transport list is not proof that a child was safely handed over; responsible staff confirm boarding, arrival and collection and escalate an unexplained mismatch. Residential pupils need recorded exit permission and return checks. No public page displays a named pupil’s route, pickup time, room or daily location.

Health, trips and images

Relevant medical instructions and participation permissions are requested separately and shared only with those who need them. A trip plan covers supervision, transport, emergency contact and relevant needs before departure. Optional public photographs need the proper permission and must not reveal unsafe location or contact details. A safeguarding concern overrides the desire to publish a good-news story. The school reviews learning from incidents and explains appropriate outcomes without disclosing another child’s confidential information.
