Accessibility and assistance

Our approach to readable, usable school information and help when a page or process creates a barrier.

About this demonstration policy

Lagoon Heights Academy is a fictional demonstration school. This policy illustrates a complete school process as at 8 October 2026; it is not an approved policy of an operating school or a claim of legal certification. The sample email, telephone and address are not monitored services. Do not submit real children’s information, send money or rely on this demo for urgent help. A live school must approve its own details and procedures before using this copy.

A website people can use

We aim for clear language, readable contrast, meaningful headings, keyboard operation, labelled forms and layouts that work on smaller screens. The design target is WCAG 2.2 Level AA. This is a target and ongoing responsibility, not a claim that an independent conformance audit has certified every page or document. School-authored images, uploads and new content also need review.

Practical ways to use the website

You can enlarge text using browser zoom, navigate controls with a keyboard and use a screen reader with the page headings and labels. Important instructions should be written as text rather than embedded only in an image. Avoid sharing private school information on a public device and sign out when finished. If a browser or assistive technology creates a problem, tell the school the affected page, task and device; do not include a password or another child’s information.

Request an alternative or adjustment

Contact the office if a form, PDF, language, hearing/vision need or connection problem prevents access. Ask for the relevant information in a usable format, a supported conversation or another safe way to complete the task. For an admissions visit or assessment, explain the adjustment needed so staff can discuss it in advance. A live school should acknowledge accessibility requests within two school days and agree a practical response; the sample demo contacts cannot arrange real support.

Known limitations and improvement

Some uploaded documents may not be fully tagged for assistive technology. Provider-managed sign-in and checkout are separate services with their own accessibility behaviour. Internet connectivity can affect uploads, checkout and saving an online form; request a safe alternative rather than repeatedly submitting sensitive information. Staff should review inaccessible content and report reproducible provider barriers. Feedback is recorded and prioritised according to impact, including whether someone cannot complete an essential school task. Standards information is available at w3.org/TR/WCAG22/.

For a real case, use the verified contact details of the school your child attends. The school office routes privacy matters to the privacy lead, child-protection matters to the safeguarding lead, and fee queries to finance. This edition is dated 8 October 2026. Material changes should be explained to affected families before they take effect.
